Parents As Teachers
Parents as Teachers Approach
We’re all in families. We’ve all been young children ourselves. Wherever our lives have brought us since then, we’re all in this together – and that’s something to celebrate!
Our vision is that all children will develop, learn, and grow to realize their full potential, but we’re not here to talk about the “right” and “wrong” ways to parent. We’re here to provide information that supports parents’ role as their child’s first and most important teachers and advocates.
Parents as Teachers Approach is to partner, facilitate and reflect.
It’s important to us that parents’ strengths are recognized and that they feel empowered by their relationships to choose what to do with the information they receive. Their choices at any point in time will be informed by many things, including your goals, their perspectives, and their ways of being as a family.
WE PARTNER WITH PARENTS
Parents as Teachers in Osborn is built on the principle that parents are their child’s first and best teachers. All parents, regardless of personal circumstances, can be empowered to gain control over difficult life events and interact with their children in a way that facilitates healthy development.
Through the combined use of personal visits, group connections, developmental screenings and our resource network, we partner with parents to help build their capacity to support their child’s development. We focus on school readiness, parenting proficiency and family health.
My name is Jessica Sweiger and I am the Parent Educator for the Osborn School District which is part of the Platte Valley COOP. Please contact me for more information or to enroll.
THE BUILDING BLOCKS
In-Home visits are the very core of what we do. They’re centered on our nationally certified Parent Educators building meaningful relationship with families.
Group connections are when we bring all of our families together to go over a broad range of topics that combine educational programs with family fun.
